Abstract
Cognitive rehabilitation (CR) is needed to focus on working collaboratively on the patients¡¯ individual needs and goals. We aimed to assess the effect of CR based on communication between two patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and their caregivers. We conducted a ¡°family meeting¡± wherein the patient, caregivers, physician, and therapists together set the specific goals for the patient, assessed the achievement of the initial goals, and adjusted the goals. After the 6-month CR, one patient who had 3 goals showed improvement in all cognitive domains and performances of daily living. The other patient who had 2 goals showed a slight decrease in some cognitive domains, performance of daily activities, and mean score of goal-related achievement and satisfaction. However, each score of 2 goals was still maintained. CR based on goal setting through patient and caregiver communication may be an approach to support daily functioning in patients with MCI.
